Laundry

Day 19- Imagine yourself doing any household task/chore, then write a poem using what you’ve imagined as an extended metaphor for writing.

Note: this is not really a metaphor, but I didn’t think anything else could capture what I was trying to convey.

Every time I do the laundry,

my thoughts spin round in circles.

I drown in tears,

I am washed clean.

I don’t separate the colours

so they bleed into each other –

reds and greens, blues and purples,

a rainbow of emotions.

When they come out,

I wring them

once

twice

thrice

(till they are no longer dripping

with the intensity of novelty).

I hang them up to dry

and watch as the colours fade

in the light of acceptance.

And then I fold them neatly

and arrange them in the pages of my book.
